F/T - Reference Clerk - Pratt Institute

Job Description
Under moderate supervision and with wide latitude for independent judgment, assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Reference department and provide support in the Public Services department of the Library.
- Provide reference assistance and direction as well as general information to library users
• Implement associated library policies and procedures
• Assist library users with general use of public computing equipment and copiers
• Page materials from closed stack areas (i.e. retrieve materials from thesis and special collections)
• Maintain reference desk statistics
• Assist with training and supervision of student employees and graduate assistants
• Provide consistent reference desk coverage
- Provide Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Services
• Serve as the contact person for all ILL services
• Process and fulfill all ILL requests
• Communicate with students and staff regarding ILL requests and procedures
• Maintain ILL statistics
- Coordinate the submission of student theses into the library's permanent collections
• Process and prepare thesis submissions
• Prepare items for binding, and keep records of items submitted to the bindery
• Communicate policies and procedures regarding theses to students and faculty
- Prepare and implement electronic reserves services
• Serve as contact person for all Electronic Reserve Requests
• Manage Electronic Reserve records in the integrated library system
• Work closely with designated staff to coordinate workflow of electronic and print reserves
• Assist with print reserves as necessary
• Communicate reserve policies and procedures to faculty and students
• Maintain Electronic Reserve statistics
-Supports the Department of Public Services and the Libraries
• Assist in the circulation department as needed
• Opening and/or closing the library on occasion. Work during evening or weekend hours in case of an emergency.
• Participate in libraries outreach activities as needed
-Perform other duties as assigned.
This is a full-time union position. Starting salary is $33,525.10/year plus excellent benefits.
Required Skills
Basic keyboarding skills; demonstrated clerical accuracy; and familiarity and comfort with computer technology as well as ability to adapt to and use new systems. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to deal with the public effectively. Must be flexible to work occasionally on some evenings and weekends if necessary.
The successful candidate will be flexible, enthusiastic to learn, creative and willing to embrace change.
Required Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of college and three (3) years' experience working in a library preferred. Previous public service, supervisory, and training experience desirable.
