GENERAL DUTIES: 
Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise as noted below.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.
FLSA: Exempt

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION:
The successful candidate will be conversant with new communication technologies and media and have the skills to create web-delivered instructional materials.  S/he will be knowledgeable about distance education issues, and skilled in delivering them.  S/he will have the vision to transform print special collections to exciting online experiences.  S/he will have the interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with a diverse population of distance students and faculty.  The ideal candidate will enjoy working with technology, but also have a commitment to teaching users and training library colleagues in more advanced applications and web-based resources.
In addition to the general duties, the Emerging Technologies/Distance Services Librarian will also be required to:
--Provide leadership and expertise in the identification, assessment, and implementation of emerging technologies that further the Library's mission
--Participate in expanding the Library's outreach through thoughtful and effective use of emerging technologies and by creating and maintaining web-based and real-time interactive tools and services for online, distance and on-campus students
--Collaborate with distance education faculty to ensure information literacy goals are achieved.
--Ensure the Library's website CMS effectively advances the Library's goals
--Work with special collections librarian on identifying and planning projects to digitize the Lloyd Sealy Library's unique collections in criminal justice history
--Provide leadership in the development of a next generation digital content management system and manage the transfer of digital assets from the current (Greenstone) system
--Evaluate and promote the usability and efficiency of Web-based services and resources
--Work on instructional technology & design, including the creation of online tutorials/instruction widgets
--Effectively integrate social media into the Library's web presence

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor designations:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of expertise, or equivalent as noted below.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
For Instructor designation:
A Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent as noted below.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: For appointment as an Instructor:  ALA-accredited MLS degree.
For appointment as an Assistant Professor: ALA-accredited MLS degree, plus second Master's degree or doctorate.
- Knowledge of and experience with web client and server applications, databases, and web programming environments (e.g., HTML, CSS, XML, and scripting languages); experience with the open source community, philosophy, and tools (e.g.,Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Python/Perl); good communication skills required
- Academic library experience; experience with and/or administrator knowledge of Drupal and DSpace; experience creating and editing a variety of digital media formats; experience creating and managing digital collections; supervisory experience preferred

COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience

Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans.  Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
