Departmental Focus
The Electronic Resources unit leads, coordinates, and supports the collection and management of licensed electronic resources throughout Yale University Library. The library’s electronic collections have grown over the past decade to include more than 70,000 full text serial titles, approximately 1,000 databases, and close to 1 million online books. The library is transitioning from print and print with online, to electronic-only formats. The Electronic Resources Support Librarian reports to the Team Leader of the Electronic Resources unit and is a member of a departmental team that provides responsive, effective, and evolving coordination of electronic resource collecting and management.

Representative Responsibilities

Departmental Responsibilities
1.Works closely with staff across the Yale University Library to support and coordinate the management of electronic resources.

2.Manage the electronic resources life-cycle through close collaboration with acquisitions personnel throughout the library, and serve as a resource person for selectors and library units for issues related to electronic resource workflow.

3.Serve as a member of the license review team to approve licenses for electronic materials, and serve on the trouble-shooting team.

4.Manage metadata for electronic resources using various library resource management applications including Yale Links (ExLibris SFX OpenURL link resolver), the Integrated Library System (ExLibris Voyager), and other local databases.

5.Assist in the development of workflows, best practices, and documentation to facilitate the library’s transition to online collections.

6.Develop an assessment program for data related to electronic resources, and coordinate with the Library’s developing assessment program.   Organize, analyze and interpret usage data and assist selectors with the interpretation of data.

Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience

Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited Library school. In selected instances, a post-graduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for an MLS. Appointment to this rank is limited to two years at which time it is expected that the individual will develop necessary requirements to meet expectations of performance at the Librarian 2 level.

Required Skills and Abilities
1.Appointment to Librarian 2 requires a minimum of 2 years professional library experience and professional accomplishments.  Appointment at Librarian 3 level requires a minimum of five years relevant professional library experience and professional accomplishments.

2.Demonstrated  understanding of the complex, ever-changing electronic publishing environment and scholarly communications issues.

3.The ability to work with a varied user groups and function effectively in a team environment and in a complex organization. Demonstrated ability to work collegially and cooperatively within and across organizations.

4.Excellent analytical skills and oral and written communication skills.   Evidence of high productivity and problem solving skills when working independently or in groups, as changing situations require.

5.Proficiency with desktop applications in the MS Office Suite – Word, Excel, and Access.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills

1.Knowledge of scholarly communication industry norms and practices.

2.Project management skills.

3.Experience supporting an OpenURL resolver.  Familiarity with ILS such as Voyager/Orbis.

4.Experience providing troubleshooting for problem reports.

5.Experience in supporting electronic resource activities.

6.Experience with the management of continuing resources in print and other formats.
