Job Description: 
The Media Asset Librarian is responsible for managing and maintaining a new and highly functional videotape Library Operation. Manages all archival and newly-produced game and program tapes by assuring detailed and accurate input of tape information and metadata into the library software system, building a robust searchable database that efficiently identifies and retrieves tape material to support staff requests, program production, and development initiatives. Labels and barcodes all assets to operate an organized shelving and tape checkout/return system. Interfaces with the "MAM" digital archive based offsite, identifying and delivering important video assets for digitization. Assists with the retrieval and delivery of material from the digital archive to MSG. Manages tape retention policies and onsite space limitations by purging, recycling, and utilizing offsite storage facilities. Works with IT on the periodic implementation, upgrades, and maintenance of the library software. Manages inventory and distribution of tape stock. Partners with various internal departments to support their needs. Assists in the delivery of videotape to external content providers, film labs, and storage facilities. Recommends, improves, and enforces SOP’s pertaining to newly-established rules, policies, and security issues to provide optimum protection, tracking, and accountability of MSG’s media assets. Ongoing inventory of stored material to efficiently identify assets, and creating and maintaining a yearly broadcast database and inventory report for each MSG team. Partner closely with offsite storage facility to increase operational efficiency, decrease storage costs, and improve and increase the data and information available for every piece of stored media. Coordinate daily game records with the technical server area, preparing labeled raw tapes in advance. Assists in the preparation of dub requests and footage screeners for third parties. Participates in special projects and performs other tasks as assigned.  
 
Job Qualifications: 
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor`s degree in Library Science, preferably in video or film. Must have at least two years of television or video library experience. Will have a solid understanding of sports television process from production to on-air, and possess knowledge of current and historical sports with a passion for local sports teams. Must have understanding of the various tape formats and the types of incoming broadcast/program/raw shoot tapes that must be managed within the day-to-day workflow. Must be skilled in database management and digital archiving, with high attention to detail, and have excellent written, verbal, organizational, and time management skills. Will also be a team player with the ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, ever-changing environment. Will possess the ability to develop strong working relationships with internal departments, existing clients and vendors. Must be computer proficient with advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Prior experience with MAM systems and FileMaker Pro, a plus. Must be flexible to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
