F/T - Manager, Community Outreach - Queens Library (NY)

Manager, Community Outreach and Programs




Queens Borough Public Library, a private non-profit corporation located in Queens, New York, is a national and international leader in the delivery of public library service. The Queens Library includes 63 public libraries with 1,700 employees.



The Manager of Community Outreach and Programs coordinates outreach to multiethnic community organizations and ethnic media. Assists in the management of system-wide programs and services for immigrants including: cultural and informational programs, collection development in immigrant languages, and online/web-based services. Oversees New Americans Program (NAP) outreach activities. Expands and evaluates NAP programming activities. Supervises, trains and evaluates NAP program staff. Establishes relationships with individuals and community based organizations with special attention to outreach to Chinese and Korean communities. Participates in and coordinates NAP staff participation in community events. Assists in planning and evaluating service components. Assists in developing programs, services, and materials for immigrant communities including use of social media and online/web activities. Assists in monitoring demographic trends. Collects data on immigrant serving agencies in Queens. Assists in implementing and overseeing grant projects. Acts as a liaison to Community Library Managers/Assistant Community Library Managers regarding immigrant services. Recommends and develops promotional materials for customer use. Follows-up on leads from Queens Library staff regarding new or emerging immigrant groups. Represents NAP to immigrant-serving agencies and the media, with a special emphasis on local Asian media. Assists in development, selection and maintenance of Community Library language collections within budget limitations and deadlines. Prepares reports, memos and other correspondence relating to NAP. Suggests and completes special projects as assigned. Assists with translations of Queens Library materials. Represents NAP at meetings and conferences. Assists in identifying potential performers and speakers. Assists in planning and implementing in-service workshops for library staff. Assists with monitoring coping skills and cultural arts programs. Assists with International Relations activities including scheduling visitors. Makes presentations to visitors. Content Manager for NAP web pages. Liaison with the Information Technology Department for technical issues and Marketing for content creation and promotion of NAP pages. Performs other duties as required.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

An ALA accredited MLS degree required. A minimum of one year supervisory and budgeting experience required. Must have strong networking and outreach skills. Must have experience in planning and evaluating programs and services. Must have the ability to launch and manage projects from inception to completion. Strong public programming skills required. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Must be able to fluently read, write and speak at least one immigrant language (Chinese or Korean preferred), as well as English. Experience in collection development in languages other than English preferred. Must demonstrate an interest in the needs of immigrants as library customers. Must be proficient and knowledgeable in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) as well as the Internet, and new technologies as applied to libraries, e.g. Google Docs, social media.
