The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking a Librarian for a term appointment (cannot exceed 3/31/2015). This position is located at the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Academic Division, Library, New London, CT.

DUTIES:

You will be responsible for performing all functions of systems librarian required to support the education and training outcomes of the Academy.



Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:



- Serves as the database administrator for the library’s integrated system.

- Troubleshoots hardware, software, and access issues.

- Serves as a senior librarian, providing guidance and assistance to junior technical services staff.

- Trains library staff in the use of library systems and applications, including conducting classes and writing manuals.

-Provides leadership in the management and procurement of electronic resources.

- Evaluates and recommends hardware and software purchases and assesses user satisfaction.

- Prepares administrative reports, collects and compiles statistics, and provides other administrative assistance to the Director as required.



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Basic Requirements:


A. Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor’s degree;


OR


B. A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
