Competitive Intelligence Librarian
Blank Rome, LLP
Location: New York, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Wilmington, or Princeton

Primary Responsibilities:
Provides business and legal research and reference services for the firm’s management, attorneys and staff. Works with the practice groups and marketing department on projects designed to give senior management information about competitors' plans and activities, and ensure the firm is responsive to market changes driven by both consumer demands and the competitive environment. Develops action plans and analytical approaches for addressing key intelligence topics. Drafting concise, actionable intelligence reports. Assists in the strategic advancement of the firm. Complies with ethical standards and the Economic Espionage Act of 1996 in all data collection activities.
Tasks Performed:
Carries out data collection and analysis as assigned. Uses a variety of tools to obtain information required to support better strategic decision making. Analyzes data collected and drafts reports. Assists in preparation of presentations and reports for senior management and other units of the firm. Takes primary responsibility for some presentations.
Essential Functions:
Provides both quick reference and in-depth research on legal issues, business and corporate records, business development (marketing), and public. Prepares legislative histories, bibliographies, library guide. Assists users in the selection and use of print and electronic research tools. Proficient research skills using electronic resources. Monitors online databases and news sources for practice-specific information. Establishes and maintains a ready reference file. Develops bibliographies, pathfinders, and other user aids for both print and electronic resources. Participates in collecting and developing intranet resources.
Desired Education:
Master of Library & Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
Desired Job Experience:
Two years of experience in a law library. Two years of competitive intelligence experience, either in or out of the legal industry.
Other Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge of legal and business databases, including Lexis, Westlaw, BNA, CCH IntelliConnect, Bloomberg Law, Hein Online, Knowledge Mosaic, Hoovers, Dun & Bradstreet, and TLOxp. Word, Excel, Outlook, and advanced computer skills are necessary. Willingness to learn and stay current on the most effective research methods and strategies. Excellent writing and presentation skills. Member of appropriate professional organizations.
