Collections Management Assistant, The Metropolitan Museum of Art – NY

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is seeking the Collections Management Assistant, to be responsible for the continued refinement and improvement of collection information records by the data entry of new information, the proof- reading and correction of existing records, and the vetting of associated digital imagery.Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
 

•Enter new information into the database records such as curatorial notes, references, bibliography, label text, exhibition, loan and conservation history from historic catalog cards, object files, new publications, and curatorial requests.
•Systematically check gallery labels against the database to verify the accuracy of information contained in both.
•Continue on-going proofreading and correction of database records for typographic errors and data entry inconsistencies non-compliant with recently adopted stylistic and usage guidelines.
•Vet the accuracy and public access appropriateness of digital imagery associated with the records.
•Create and maintain all paper-based object files and catalog cards.
•Other projects, as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications:
 

Experience and Skills:
 

•Meticulous attention to detail
•Previous experience with TMS or similar collections management software preferred
•Previous proofreading or editing experience preferred
•Superior computer and organizational skills
•Established ability to work independently on fast-moving, shifting-priority projects
•Strong communication skills

Knowledge and Education:
•B.A required
•M.A. in museum studies, library science, art history, or related discipline preferred
•Experience with databases, data entry, museum registration methods preferred
•Reading knowledge of one or more European languages a plus
•Knowledge of European sculpture and decorative arts a plus
