Assessment and Organizational Performance Librarian, Temple Univ – PA


The Temple University Libraries seek a librarian dedicated to the continuous improvement of library operations and services to coordinate our ongoing assessment and organizational performance program.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Assessment & Organizational Performance Librarian develops, implements, and coordinates a comprehensive assessment program for the Temple University libraries, identifying key methods, techniques, benchmarks and metrics for determining the success and effectiveness of major activities and program areas, encompassing research, instructional, access and technology services, collections, budget management, constituent satisfaction, and goal setting and attainment. The incumbent will:


  • Assume a leadership role in developing, implementing, coordinating, and analyzing results of assessment programs for the library, including identification of appropriate approaches, measures, and techniques.
  • Collaborate with library administrators and department heads in identifying and prioritizing assessment needs and establishing a set of initiatives to address those needs.
  • Collaborate with the Instruction Librarian on the development of evaluation methods for information literacy initiatives.
  • Develop and administer surveys and other study methods to identify user needs and measure library user satisfaction levels.
  • Integrate studies of online information environments into assessment projects, including such activities as Web site and information resource usability.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present to the library staff and the university community the results of assessment and evaluation activities.
  • Support and coordinate the data gathering, statistical profiling, benchmarks, and standard metrics required of the University Libraries by local, regional, and national organizations and agencies, including the Association of Research Libraries, the Association of College and Research Libraries, and the National Center for Educational Statistics.
  • Represent the assessment interests and needs of Temple University Libraries at the local, regional and national levels through participation in meetings, conferences, professional organizations, and formal and informal cooperative initiatives in the assessment domain.
  • Work as necessary with library departments, staff committees, and individual staff members to carry out assessment projects. Engage with other administrative offices at Temple University when approval or support is required for certain assessment activities.
  • The incumbent will participate in library-wide activities and committees, and is expected to be active professionally.  S/he also will be expected to meet requirements for contract renewals, promotion, and regular appointment and perform other duties as assigned.
