Electronic Resources Librarian, Fairleigh Dickinson Univ – NJ

The Electronic Resources Librarian for the FDU Online Library is responsible for researching, evaluating, recommending, and monitoring electronic resources to achieve global library capabilities, and training librarians, faculty, and staff in their use. The incumbent will coordinate the acquisition, licensing, management, and technical support of electronic information resources acquired by the FDU Libraries. These resources include, but are not limited to, databases, e-journals, e-books, and streaming media. The incumbent tracks the electronic resources budget for the FDU library system, negotiates contracts and coordinates all aspects of purchases of electronic resources for the University’s Online Library.

The incumbent serves as the sole liaison to vendors regarding electronic resource trials, acquisitions, licensing, pricing and technical issues and works with database providers, vendors, consortium partners, and other personnel to resolve problems with accessing electronic resources on either desktop or mobile devices. The Electronic Resources Librarian proactively manages technical changes to preempt resource access problems and responds to end-users’ issues with electronic resources in a timely manner.

Other responsibilities include providing accurate reports and usage statistics, training of librarians, faculty, and staff in the use of these resources, and promoting electronic resources through the FDU Library webpage and social media platforms.

This position reports to the Associate University Librarian for Technical Services. The Electronic Resources Librarian is expected to work independently, with minimal supervision. This is a University-wide position that requires communication with, and regular meetings at, the Giovatto Library, the College at Florham Library, and the Business Research Library. The incumbent will frequently be asked to participate in meetings of the 
University Library Steering Committee but is not a voting member of this committee.

Required Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.
2. Two years professional experience working with electronic resources acquisitions management, preferably in an academic library setting. Experience reviewing and negotiating license agreements as pertaining to electronic resources and the academic environment.
3. Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of electronic content delivery to both desktop and mobile devices. Experience with EZproxy and integrated library system (ILS) preferred. Proficiency with spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel also preferred.
4. Ability to work independently with strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external parties and diverse constituencies, including administration, staff, faculty, students and vendors.
7. Experience with instruction and training staff on technical topics preferred.
8. Valid driver’s license and accessibility to transportation for travel between campuses.
9. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
