Research Associate, Food Bank for NYC

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director of Research and Evaluation, the Research Associate will be primarily responsible for the investigation of issues related to hunger and associated phenomena, which will result in the compilation of Food Bank For New York City’s primary research. This includes report production related to the Hunger Experience series, an annual hunger poll of New York City residents performed in conjunction with the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, and the Agency and Participant Hunger Safety Net Reports. The Research Associate will also support the Senior Director in developing customized reports commissioned internally and externally that advance the strategic interests of the Food Bank.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Gather and summarize research data from public databases, publications, etc. to inform primary research and to develop other tools;
  • Produce regular reports for internal and external audiences (e.g. monthly meals report);
  • Respond to internal requests for data;
  • Compile data dashboard;
  • Handle assigned tasks related to annual Marist poll;
  • Administer surveys developed by the Research and Evaluation Department;
  • Maintain and update a database containing frequently used socio-demographic and economic data;
  • Organize and maintain a research reference library (includes periodic literature searches);
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required in research, public administration, public policy or equivalent;
  • A minimum of two years experience in public policy-related work, preferably in the area of hunger or poverty;
  • Basic statistical knowledge;
  • Experience with the survey process, from conceptualization through administration and analysis;
  • Proficiency in all MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint);
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and SPSS;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Interest and familiarity with food poverty and nutrition policy preferred;
  • Ideal candidate will be a flexible, organized, deadline-focused reliable team player with a collegial and professional manner and the ability to work under pressure.
