F/T - Asst. Dean, Gill Library, Coll of New Rochelle (NY)



The College of New Rochelle is seeking a dynamic, service-oriented individual to fill the position of Assistant Dean of Gill Library. This is a full-time, professional staff position, available immediately, reporting to the Dean of the Library.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assists the Dean with the overall administration of the Libraries and has primary responsibility for coordination of day-to-day library operations;
  • Coordinates on-going, inclusive strategic planning processes for the Libraries and monitors progress toward strategic goals and initiatives;
  • Works closely with the Dean to facilitate the transformation of Gill Library into a Learning Commons that integrates diverse resources, enhances instruction, seeks new opportunities, and engages the Community;
  • Collaborates with academic programs and contributes to a vibrant research and learning community at all five branch campuses.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution; second or other advanced degree preferred;
  • Three years' related administrative experience with a history of progressively knowledgeable/responsible experience in an academic library;
  • Broad, in-depth knowledge of and experience with strategic planning, introducing and managing change, and integration of a Learning Commons model;
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills;
  • Clear evidence of collaborative leadership skills, initiatives, flexibility and impeccable integrity;
  • Excellent analytical, time management, organizational and creative problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the College and Library Mission, student centeredness, customer service, and collaborative approaches;
  • Ability to work independently and manage a complex workload;
  • Must travel to five branch campuses in the NYC metropolitan area regularly;
  • Must provide Reference coverage and work evenings and weekends, if needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Innovative Interfaces, Inc. and a variety of library-related systems;
  • Experience in Cataloging, Reference Services, or Electronic Resources;
  • Experience using library-related database management programs, Open Source, Copyright, scholarly communication or digitization initiatives.
