The Mount Sinai Archives would like to hire an Associate Archivist to be in charge of the St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital (SLR) historical collection. This is NOT an entry level position. The position reports to the Director of the Mount Sinai Archives and is based at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. More specific information is below. Mount Sinai Health System is seeking an Associate Archivist for the Department of Academic Informatics & Technology


What You’ll Do:
Report to the Director of Archives & Records Management


• Serve as the main caretaker for the records of the Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West Hospital (SLR) Collection.

• Process, arrange, and describe archival material in accordance with professional best practices, including all levels and forms of description, from MARC cataloging to online inventories.

• Answer reference requests related to the history of Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West Hospitals and the contents of the SLR Collection.

• Create digital surrogates (print and image) in accordance with Mount Sinai Archives policies and best practices.

• Participate in the research, design and creation of exhibits in any designated display areas at the former SLR institutions or in the Mount Sinai Archives’ display cases, as well as creating blog posts and history slides relating to the Collection.

• Perform outreach to the Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West campuses to ensure their knowledge and appreciation of their histories.

• Maintain current knowledge of trends in archival management and technology.

• Participate in the planning process for the Archives Division.


What You’ll Bring:
Education
Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science, History or a related field, with a concentration in Archives & Records Administration required.


• 3-5 years’ experience processing archival collections, preferably in an institutional archives.


Computer Skills
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office


• Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Photoshop along with scanning experience

• Familiarity with standard library and archival metadata schemas (Dublin Core, MARC, DACS, EAD)

• HTML markup as needed for Archives web site

• Other programs as defined by role.


General Skills
Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and planning skills


• Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to work independently and as a member of a team

• Possess the ability to work with staff from all levels of the organization

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills

• Excellent ability to multi-task, keeping priorities aligned

• Excellent customer service and support skills.
