Social Sciences Librarian, Lehigh U (PA)

Social Sciences/Scholarly Communications Librarian


Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA seeks a dynamic candidate to partner with faculty in experimenting with a broad range of digital scholarly publishing opportunities. The Social Sciences/Scholarly Communications Librarian serves as an advocate for open access to scholarship, facilitates the growth of current faculty scholarship in the campus repository, and engages with the national library scholarly communications community. The Librarian provides a broad range of collection development, instruction and research services, including data management services.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provides training, documentation, and direct assistance to users seeking to manage rights; develops and promotes opportunities for publishing within the library campus repository participates in national programs related to repositories
  • Serves as a campus resource on new developments in the scholarly publishing world and on a broad array of publication metrics; develops a detailed knowledge of Lehigh's scholarly output and of publishing trends at the University
  • Serves as the lead librarian on copyright and intellectual property developments and issues
  • Develops, evaluates and manages information collections for curricular and research needs for social science disciplines; develops and delivers course-integrated library research instruction 
  • Selects and promotes datasets of interest to faculty in social science disciplines, with special focus on government and international data
  • Participates in planning and creation of digital library projects in social science areas
  • Serves as campus expert for news and news archives databases, sources and delivery options.

Requirements: 

  • Master's Degree in Library Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience, such as a CLIR fellowship
  • Academic background in the social sciences; masters degree preferred.
  • Three to five years related work experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong computer skills; familiarity with statistical software (STATA, SPSS) desirable.  
  • Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position

The salary range for this position is upper $50’s to low 60’s.
